How to Make – Advent Calendar

This is similar to an advent calendar but is for the days following Christmas and gives children something to look forward to after the main event.

You will need:
1 750g cereal box
12 small oxo boxes or similar
white paper
wrapping paper
numbers 1-12

  • Open the cereal box and lay flat on the table.
  • Measure the small box and mark positions on the cereal box on the white side, not as shown here. Allow about 1cm between squares
  • If you do not have sufficient small boxes open one and use as a template to cut more from cereal packets or other thin card.
  • Cover the outside (printed side) of the cereal box with wrapping paper or wallpaper
  • Cut the doors (3 sides only) and glue or tape a small piece of ribbon to each. Push closed with the ribbon on the outside
  • Mark the center top of the cereal box on front and back panels. Mark 5cm down each side. Cut down the side fold of the box. Draw a line from the mark at the side to the mark at the centre, then score and fold.
  • Glue the flaps of the small boxes to the inside of the cereal box over the squares you originally marked. Leave to dry.
  • Place a small double sided sticky pad on the end of each box then fold the cereal box back to it’s original shape, glue or tape the side flap in place.
  • Cut a piece of card for the roof. Cover with white paper and glue in place
  • Mark doors with a number from 1 to 12

Fill each box with a small toy or a few sweets
