Hi could you tell me your opening times for the hythe pkease

Bright Ideas closed last March due to Essex Council withdrawing funding. I have tried to find new premises but everything is too expensive.
I have some stock left (most was given away last year) so if you let me know what you need I can see if we have any.
Ipswich and Thurrock are the nearest scrapstores

I have been looking for a place like this for ages. I had no idea there used to be one down at the Hythe until April last year.
    And I missed it!
I am an artist based near Colchester and I have a project that I need more stuff for.
I have been lucky enough to get 2 thyratrons from the local hospital and a few motorbike bits from a shop in Clacton for free. Very lucky indeed!
But to get on with my project I need more stuff to work with.
I am looking for Steampunk/industrial suitable things. And you’d be surprised what can work.
    I just need source materials.
    Fran B.

    Hi Fran,
    Sorry you missed us!
Have you tried Freecycle? Lots of useful stuff given away there.
You could try contacting Re-Create in Ipswich or
    Pyramid in Thurrock:
to see if they have anything suitable.
You could also try Autobreak at the Hythe for motor parts or a scrap metal merchants (but both will probably charge.
It is rather late in the year to suggest this but boot sales may turn up some items of use. Ardleigh (Sundays) and Marks Tey (wednesdays) are still running as is the Late Riser in Great Clacton

Hope this has been of some help

    Hi Kathy,

I have just stumbled across this amazing initiative you had running in the Hythe. How utterly miserable that you had to close. We need more stuff like this! I am starting up a monthly “Green Market”, starting in January. I wonder if in any capacity your project could still run via this outlet? I want to offer organic and vegan food, promote zero waste living and support eco designers. I also hope to be able to have sessions where people can drop in to learn new skills such as using a sewing machine, composting and growing, cookery sessions etc. If you are interested, please get in touch. I would love to have you on board. Namaste, Stacey

    Hi Stacey,
Sorry about the delay in answering but I have only just seen your post.
Your idea sounds great. I have been thinking about starting some sort of craft group but couldn’t find any suitable building. I have considered doing something in my kitchen by haven’t yet got around to sorting out the legalities and insurance etc.
Even though Bright Ideas has closed I am still in contact with other scrapstores and often arrange with Ipswich to pass on bits that I still have from when we closed or things that people have offered me.
Feel free to contact me anytime.
